Pharmacy Team

Pat Downing

Pat Downing is a 1970 graduate and student of the University of Houston, College of Pharmacy.  He became involved in a compounding pharmacy in the late 1980s but opened Med Shop in the early 1990s.   An active UH alumni, Pat has served on the Dean’s Advisory Counsel, and is a member of the Madding Society. In addition, he has served on Texas Pharmacy Association’s Compounding Academy Legislative Committee, IACP’s Board of Directors for eight years, IJPC’s Vice President of the Board and the Texas State Board of Pharmacy’s Task Force on Compounding Regulations. He is a member of
the American Pharmacists Association, has been honored as a PCCA Pharmacist of the Month (June 1996) and as a PCCA Pharmacist of the Year (2004). This award is presented annually to the PCCA member who demonstrates service excellence with patients, healthcare providers and pharmacy colleagues, alike.  He is involved in numerous local service clubs and is a past City Council member.  The family pharmacy tradition has continued with his daughters, Dee and Jenny, both of whom are compounding pharmacists. His youngest daughter, Jana, has worked in pharmaceutical sales, and is now a pharmacy student at the University of Houston.  His wife, Jan, is a registered nurse who runs the pharmacy’s DME department.

Pat is a pharmacist who has become one of our profession’s best ambassadors. Known for an unwavering commitment to compounding pharmacy, Pat Downing has spent many hours working to protect the right to compound.  He continually has spearheaded state board and pharmacy association initiatives to ensure that compounding remains a viable practice model. Pat’s willingness to network with his colleagues and his passion for compounding and serving patients are legendary.

 

Dee Downing Hollis

Dee graduated with a BS from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy in 1994.  After working as a pharmacist in the hospital, home health and consulting arenas, she came back to Longview to work in the family pharmacy in 2004. Prior to returning to the family pharmacy, Dee worked for PCCA (Professional Compounding Centers of America) as a consultant. While enjoying the fruits of a well established compounding pharmacy, her areas of specialty are sterile compounding and hormone replacement for men and women.  She was instrumental in designing the pharmacy’s state of the art sterile cleanroom systems and continually strives to bring the latest technology to the forefront of her family’s compounding pharmacy.  Dee is very active in the Texas Pharmacy Association and has served as the Chair of the Compounding Academy for several terms.-Galveston, Helix, and 8 years at PCCA.  She returned home in 2004 to come to join the team at MSTC.

 

Pat Muehlstein

Pat Muehlstein joined the Med Shop team in 1998 after working for Eckerd Corporation for twenty-three years.  He is knowledgeable and assists in both sterile and non-sterile compounding.  Pat is a 1974 graduate of University of Houston College of Pharmacy. 

 

Veterinary Team

Jenny Downing Yoakum

Jenny Yoakum returned to Med Shop Total Care, Inc in Longview, Texas in the late summer of 2006.  She returned as the Veterinary Pharmacist and has since become Pharmacist in Charge.  An expert in veterinary compounding, Jenny consults with veterinarians routinely regarding a variety of medicine challenges affecting equine, feline, canine and exotic (tigers, monkeys, reptiles, fish, birds and gorillas) patients.  She has helped developed customized formulas to help address a variety of conditions experienced by many different species, both small and large.

Jenny joined the staff of Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA) in Houston, Texas in 1999 as a member of the pharmacy consultant department.  PCCA provides independent, compounding pharmacists with bulk pharmaceuticals and American Council on Pharmaceutical Education-accredited technical training and education.  As a pharmacist consultant, Jenny answered 50 to 75 calls daily from PCCA’s compounding pharmacists located in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, helping them to solve patient’s unique medication challenges.  In addition, she was a member of PCCA’s formula team, which tests and retests formulations in the company’s in-house laboratories.  She has remained a consultant to the consultants at PCCA and helps out when requested.

Jenny developed and coordinates Med Shop’s veterinary program -- educating veterinarians’ on a variety of topics related to veterinary medicine; treating specific disease states in various species of animals; and the various dosage forms employed in veterinary compounding.   She recently completed work on several proprietary injectables for use in breeding.  Her interest in veterinary medicine has evolved from experience gained while in private practice as well as during her pharmacy education prior to joining PCCA.  Jenny also completed an internship at Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in College Station, Texas, participating on the care team’s rounds at area ranches for example. 

Licensed to practice pharmacy in Texas and Tennessee, Jenny obtained a bachelor’s of science degree in pharmacy from the University of Houston, College of Pharmacy.  She is a member of The International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists, Texas Pharmacy Association, is on the Compounding Board of Directors at TPA, and a member of Texas Veterinary Medical Association.

 
Sandy Murrell-Johnson

Sandy comes to us with a vast experience managing veterinary clinics and equine ranches.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science in 1993 and her Masters in Physiology of Reproduction (Equine) in 2003 at Texas A&M University.  Sandy joined our customer service team as an inside sales representative and is ready to assist you!

 
Amy McDuffie

Amy is a Registered, Certified Pharmacy Technician and has been with Med Shop for several years.  She has worked in the non-sterile lab and inventory control/ordering and is very knowledgeable on compounding.  Amy also serves as the trainer for new hires, as her compounding technique and attention to detail are outstanding.  She was recently promoted to customer service and is eagerly awaiting your call.

 

Medical Depot DME Team

Jan Downing, RN

Jan Downing, RN is a 1990 graduate of the Kilgore College Nursing Program, where she received her Associate of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse.  This is where she earned the Who’s Who Associate Degree in Nursing for her Academic Achievements while in school.  While attending nursing school, Jan worked as an extern for Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview.  She continued work at the hospital for a year after graduation working in ICU and heart patient recovery.  Jan has a vast amount of experience in many areas of business, as well as healthcare.  Before returning to nursing school, she worked in many industries.  She worked for the University of Houston’s Fundraising and Development Department in 1967 to 1969 while Pat finished Pharmacy school.  After returning to Longview in 1970, she worked for a stockbroker, an accountant, and a brewery where she gained experience and knowledge in management and business operations.  Jan began the DME business in Gilmer in 1988, which expanded to Longview in 1995.  The DME quickly outgrew the pharmacy’s space and was moved next door to the current location in 1997.  Jan currently leads a team of 15 employees in Longview and one in Gilmer.

 

Tim Miller

Tim has been in the healthcare industry for over 17 years.  He began his career in 1993 and in the late 90’s he became employed by Med Shop Total Care, Inc as the Director of Marketing.  In 1997, he was hired by McKesson, an international healthcare company, as an account manager.  He served North East Texas for 6 years, acquiring many new accounts that assisted in the growth of the company.  In 2003, he became employed once again by Med Shop and returned to the position of Director of Marketing. In 2008, he became General Manager over the Med Shop Medical Depot. 
In search of ways to expand the company, Tim became a certified shoe fitter and established a shoe fitting service for customers in need of therapeutic shoes.  He also became a contractor and launched the installation service of commercial and private consumer accessibility ramps. 
While Tim is very dedicated to his profession, he is also very devoted to his wife and five children.  He rarely misses a sporting event, music recital or any other activities that his family may be involved in.  He enjoys spending any free time outdoors, camping, fishing, and hunting.

 

Katy Leathers

Katy Leathers is the Director of Marketing for MedShop Medical Depot.  In this role, Katy coordinates most aspects of outside sales, including public relations, community relations, and marketing our products and services to various doctor’s offices and medical facilities in Longview and surround areas.

Katy has more than 5 years experience as a marketer.  Prior to marketing, she spent 5 plus years working in Physical Therapy for Centre of Rehabilitation Excellence (CORE) and Direct RehabMed.  Her past experience in the physical therapy field has made her much more knowledgeable as a marketer in the medical field. 

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Biology from East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.  She was born and raised in East Texas, growing up in Hallsville and attending Hallsville schools where she participated in athletics and achieved honors in both athletics and academics.  She currently lives in Longview with her partner and their four-legged babies!
